The Carpetbagger's Children by Horton Foote
San Pedro Playhouse Cellar Theater
August 27 through September 26 (No show August 29)

The Carpetbagger's Children kicks of the tribute to Texas playwrights in the San Pedro Playhouse Cellar Theater. Opening August 27 and running through September 26, the play stars Rita Crosby, Elise Lopez and Magda Porter. Frank Latson directs.

Horton Foote's story takes us into the lives of three sisters from a well-to-do Texas. Together they weave a tapestry of their family and community which is as chaotic and traffic as it is hear-warming, exhilarating and humorous.

"Few dramatists today can replicate this kind of storytelling with the gentle mastery that Mr. Foote provides in his 90-minute portrait of the decline of one fractious family in the small Texas town of Harrison, where most of his work is set." -- New York Times

Much Ado About Nothing
The Classic Theatre of San Antonio
August 12 - 29, 2010

Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing, one of the most popular plays in the canon, receives a breath of fresh air this summer from the Classic. When Leonato, the play's hospitable host, decides to play a party game with his guests, fun becomes fate, deceptions turn to truth, and seemingly lighthearted craftiness leads to an issue of life and death. The play stars Asia and Tony Ciaravino as the combatively lovable Beatrice and Benedick, and San Antonio veteran actor Bill Gundry as Leonato, and is directed by Andrew Thornton.

Harvey Comedy by Mary Chase
Boerne Community Theatre
September 17 - October 2, 2010

When Elwood P. Dowd starts to introduce his imaginary friend, Harvey, a six-and-a-half-foot rabbit, to guests at a society party, his sister, Veta, has seen as much of his eccentric behavior as she can tolerate. She decides to have him committed to a sanitarium to spare her daughter, Myrtle Mae, and their family from future embarrassment. Problems arise, however, when Veta herself is mistakenly assumed to be on the verge of lunacy when she explains to doctors that years of living with Elwood's hallucination have caused her to see Harvey also! The doctors commit Veta instead of Elwood, but when the truth comes out, the search is on for Elwood and his invisible companion. When he shows up at the sanitarium looking for his lost friend Harvey, it seems that the mild-mannered Elwood's delusion has had a strange influence on more than one of the doctors. Only at the end does Veta realize that maybe Harvey isn't so bad after all. A great kick-off to BCT's 20th Anniversary Season!
