Thank you for all of your hard work and patience last Saturday at
THEATRE ASAP. It was a fun day of theatre and I am glad I was allowed to
participate. I thought that it all went smoothly, thanks to your
preparation and attention to details. The aftershow party was so nice.
Thanks to SATCO for the great food! (and to Terri and Allen et. al. who
cleaned up afterwards!)
I also want to send out a huge thanks and GOOD SHOW to our fabulous
crew and tech! That stage manager was awesome! She had everyone in
place, ready to go, moved props and furniture, and did it all with a
calm voice and a certainty that made it so enjoyable. The sound and
lights were uncommonly wonderful too. I hope that Rick and Ricki have
recovered from the all day tech!
I met my goals of meeting new people and having fun. My sincere
appreciation to you all!
Best regards, Anna Gangai

I had such a blast being part of TheaterASAP.
I helped out on Saturday before and during the show. When I heard about
it I thought it was a very curious idea. I can definitely say that the
production itself blew me away.
In an EXTREMELY short time, everything came
together so well. I definitely look forward to being part of next years
production. And when it's like the biggest thing in San Antonio Theater,
I'll get to say I was part of the very fist one!!!
Thanks for the opportunity,

I thought
it was a great event! When I arrived early Saturday morning there
was a huge feeling of anticipation. What will my script be like? Who
will I be playing? Definitely not what I am used to when beginning a
new project. When I met my group and headed off to begin working, I
was pleasantly surprised that I didn't know a single person in my
group. I had hoped to be matched with an old friend...but by the end
of the day I found that I had three new friends. I am now thankful
that I ended up with people I didn't know. I think getting to know
Eli, Martha and Melissa was my favorite part of the day.
When we read the script the first time, we felt there must be
pages missing. It read about three minutes long on the first read.
WOW. And I would be playing a hispanic girl...I am about as anglo
saxon as they come. That's when I started getting nervous. By the
end of the day I had found my inner Latino and felt at least
somewhat comfortable with the language and subject matter. (although
I struggled with the words "pincho gringos" right up to the final
show) Our director came up with some very creative ways to extend
the length of the script and we worked hard all day. Coming off
stage that night, there was a feeling of "that's it?" I wanted more
and it took a while to realize that the ten minutes really was all
we were going to be doing. I loved getting to watch the other short
plays and was glad we were number two and got to see the next four
performances.
My only complaint is that the script was too short. I just felt
there wasn't enough to it. But I also feel that this allowed us to
get creative and to find the meaning between the lines. We spent a
great deal of the day trying to decide what was happening and what
the playwright intended. In conclusion, I would love to do be a part
of this event again. What fun! Thanks to everyone's hard work in
putting it together.

Overall, I was impressed with the
project which was presented without any visible hitches.
Obviously, I was not privy to the organizational effort much, but
what little I was exposed to, seem to be in capable hands and well
organized.
Having written a play with a considerable amount of dialogue, I was
initially concerned that this might prove some difficulty to the
actors involved.
However, rationalizing this dilemma as "this is a challenge for
everyone involved," when viewing the performances, it became evident
that all the plays were dialogue intensive, and that my concern was
totally unfounded, which is indeed a testament to the talents of all
the well chosen directors and actors involved.
Congratulations on a successful project and much success in the
future.

| Dear Folks, What a time we had at your Theatre ASAP! It's almost too hard to
describe if you weren't there. As my husband and I discussed, it
wasn't live, it was "a-live." I've always heard that live theatre is
the most spontaneous - anything can happen and does when the
audience is present - but this format was doubly intense. "Live"
doesn't do it justice.
While you couldn't tell that the players had not been rehearsing
for weeks, we still had that great thrill that something could go
horribly wrong at any moment because of the format. That was part of
the excitement. And yet, everything was so amazingly crafted, it was
as if there was a special spirit that was part of the productions
and lifted them (and the audience) to the end.
I think that Theatre ASAP is the best venue to show the
incredible talent, and yes, genius, that San Antonio has to offer.
If, as they say, the lowest lows result in the highest highs, then
it must be that the greatest risks result in the greatest thrills.
Each of the players, writers, and directors were on the edge of the
precipice for 24 hours, toes and fingers hanging on - what a thrill
it must have been to have climbed over the top at the end of the
show.
As an audience, we were able to experience the thrill. Holding
our breaths, gripping our chairs. San Antonio has nothing else like
this in their theatre at any level. Now my challenge is: can you do
it again next year?

First; Y'all did an excellent job arranging this spectacular event! Thank
you.
Second; I was apprehensive about signing up for this event because I thought
I would not be able to memorize lines for a show and perform it in
the same day! However, I signed up anyway, was chosen, and am most
glad that I was part of this fantastic experience and new venture
into the "Theatre Experience" in our town! Thank you for the
privilege.
It was wonderful getting to know and work with people that, in
some cases, I didn't even know about! This town has a fantastic
wealth of "Theatre Folk" and this mixed things up a bit. I loved it.
As far as my apprehension of memorizing the lines, this was made
very easy with Mr. Limpus' script. He provided dialogue that not
only kept the script moving forward for the audience, but it flowed
naturally which made it very easy for the actor to memorize. Thank
you, THANK YOU. You are a wonderful writer!
The director and cast were very professional in their approach to
our one day scenario and were a delight to be with. Everyone made
each other comfortable and this provided a wonderful atmosphere in
which to "create" and "play." Thank you.
I look forward to our next venture. Can we do this every six
months?
Sincerely, Don Frame |
