Express-News Staff Writer San Antonio is going to be well-represented on New York stages this summer, courtesy of a pair of young performers.
Daniel Everidge, a 2002 North East School of the Arts graduate, will make his Broadway debut in the latest revival of "Grease." The show opens in August. The production got a fair amount of attention earlier this year — the leads were cast "American Idol"-style through the television show "You're the One That I Want." And 12-year-old Andy Richardson will play one of the newsboys in the City Center Encores! Summer Stars production of "Gypsy." Richardson was cast in an open call in New York, during which he competed against youngsters with professional Actors' Equity credits. He said he felt that his experience playing one of the newsboys in the 2005 San Pedro Playhouse production, coupled with training he has received from TexARTS near Austin, gave him a leg up at the auditions. He'll be in good company in the show, which plays July 9-29: Patti LuPone stars as Mama Rose. Richardson is hoping it's the first of many pro shows. "I want to be an actor, because I just love it," he said.
